Here, the food is bare, more authentic; the offerings and displays are not mediated by signs, windows, or all the trappings of regular stores or supermarkets. There is no distance between the product, the seller, and the buyer. It's incredible how even in cities with minimal farming or agricultural identity, like New York or London, you can find lively and exciting food markets, at least for someone like me who loves food. I enjoy wandering through the stalls, discovering and capturing with photography the habits and quirks of different culinary cultures, the faces of the customers, the manners of the vendors, and the mystery of unknown foods.
