Collection: Fish!
I spent two nights at Tsukiji Market in Tokyo, but I would have stayed for weeks because every square inch of space, every object, every face, were extraordinary photographs and stories to my eyes.
An absolutely fascinating place: the perfect blend of chaos and functionality. It captures the essence of Japanese food culture: naturalness and freshness, skillful handling and transformation to the point of being almost unrecognizable. I saw fish that were practically gutted but still breathing, seafood that seemed like it was still at the bottom of the sea despite being in styrofoam boxes, and the legendary tuna reduced to a gigantic ice block. And then there are the Japanese people, incredibly simple, yet absolutely proud and determined in their work: from the merchants, to the shop assistants, to the customers.
